How long…

Eric Garner was choked to death by NYC cops. Chokeholds have been against the policy of the NYC police since 1983 according to their own patrol guide.  To credit NYC authorities, the officer accused of choking Eric has been stripped of his gun and badge during the investigation, however when will it stop?

Choke holds GALORE in NYC police complaints…

It seems there are always a different set of rules that apply to people of color however… Let’s use Marissa Alexander for example. Zimmerman was in his rights under “Stand your Ground” laws to murder Trayvon Martin. Marissa however could be sentenced to 60 years in prison for her firing warning shots into the air…
Different rules for us.

Eric Garner had asthma. He was a gentle person by all accounts, and had no weapon on him, neither was he suspected of having a weapon on him.

So why the brute force in attacking a man who was selling “loose” cigarettes?

Eric reminds me of myself in so many ways, we are both gentle giants. I weep for his family, and despite my advanced degrees, and performance career, he and I are one in the same. We are large black men.

In our white supremacist society, that makes us the enemy, period. The culture teaches folk to be afraid of us and make us villains. It needs to stop, and I don’t know how long it will take to be seen as human beings and not enemies of the state because we walk down the street.

Eric Garner, another casualty of the race war in our “post-racial” America.

what evidence do you have (solid please not circumstantial ) that this man was victim of a racial crime? I grew up with a mom and dad you might see on a 50’s sitcom. (at least where their values are concerned). But i also grew up not to hate, My best friend ever is african american, And I have never been afraid of a black man in my life. so “the culture” taught me nothing of the sort. Your article states we live in a white supremacist society? seriously man did you not see who we elected as president…..twice? Im going to say one thing about this situation. The man said no when the officers said they were going to arrest him. They tried to bring his hands behind his back first but he resisted. IF YOU RESIST ARREST expect force to be used. Ive been arrested with out Merritt before but i knew not to challenge them, i knew to let the justice system take care of it, if i wasnt doing anything wrong then nothing would come of my arrest…and it didn’t. I was arrested alongside a Black man who i considered my friend, he also did not resist and was not treated unfairly, infact we both eventually beat the charges. Im sorry you think the way do about society. Its sad

What evidence? My eyes and common sense, two things you seem to be lacking. Please educate yourself on the history of racial profiling and the NYPD #1.

Number 2. Choke holds are illegal, yet they used it on him.

Number 3. Google the video. He was calm and the police escalated the situation into violence.

Respectability politics always is a dim witted attempt at victim blaming. “If you resist arrest expect force to be used”. Really? How ludicrous to suggest DEADLY force is a reasonable response to someone who is unarmed. These cops were cowards. Much like Oscar Grant being hand cuffed and shot in the back on the ground by police, this is another unarmed black man being murdered by a gang of armed officers. When did serve and protect change to intimidate and murder?
